As we continue to navigate unprecedented times, tertiary providers and industry have adapted the delivery of their programs to meet the ever-changing needs of Victorian students; including the facilitation of Virtual Open Days.

Open Days provide the perfect opportunity for Secondary School students to assess their future educational options and to ask any questions they might have about particular courses and HEd/TAFE providers.

Although we cannot physically visit campuses in 2020, most tertiary providers are providing virtual opportunities for students and their parents/guardians to chat with current students and staff to identify possible course options. Virtual Open Days will also allow attendees to participate in online campus tours, participate in Q&A sessions and attend information sessions.

Whilst nothing can beat the opportunity to walk around a campus – the benefit of a virtual tour is that it may prevent that ‘overwhelmed’ feeling and students can be more targeted in terms of the information they are accessing. All students can attend Open Days and I would strongly encourage them to take advantage of the great opportunities that the different tertiary providers are offering.

VTAC (Opens on 3 August)

https://www.vtac.edu.au/

On Monday 3 August, VTAC will open for Year 12 students to submit their course preferences for 2021 tertiary courses. The Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) is the central office that administers the application process for places in tertiary courses, scholarships and the Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) at universities, TAFEs and independent tertiary colleges in Victoria. VTAC also calculates and issues the ATAR for VCE students.

Over the next few weeks, our Year 12 cohort will have the opportunity to view a series of virtual information sessions and similarly, attend short Q&A sessions on campus (social distancing requirements will be strictly adhered to). This information will be shared with students and parents/guardians via SEQTA.

NOTE: VTAC is not just for Year 12 students. The website includes many terrific resources to support students with making informed career decisions. These include:

Apprenticeships & Traineeships

University and TAFE are not the only options post-Secondary School. If your child is interested in pursuing an apprenticeship or apprenticeship, here are a few links to get them (and you) started:
