From the Head of Junior School
2020!! What an unprecedented year it has been!!
Similarly to the majority of this year, our end of year events will also look different again this term. On Monday our Year 3-6 students will view the prerecorded Award Celebration in their classrooms. Despite this event being online, it will still be a wonderful celebration of the achievements in the areas of academic excellence, outstanding effort and endeavour, leadership, and commitment to Casey Grammar. I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate all those who will receive these well-deserved awards. I look forward to presenting these with Mrs Williams in person following the Service. Please note that parents can also enjoy the Award Celebration Service from 4:00pm on Monday, the link will be available on our website.
Our upcoming Christmas Chapel will also take place virtually and is sure to be a fitting end to our year, highlighting the real meaning of Christmas. Special thanks to Mrs Riviere-Pendle and Mrs Grant for their efforts putting our Chapel together.
I am absolutely thrilled to announce that next Thursday evening our Year 6 students will be attending their Junior School Graduation onsite. This event will be live streamed to parents and families and will incorporate student reflections on their seven years of Junior School education before our students enjoy dinner and their fabulous disco. I’d like to thank Mr Greg Newham, Ms Amy Mepstead and Mrs Marie Badar for the hours of preparation they have dedicated to ensuring the evening will be a huge success.
On Monday 7 December, our Year 5 & 6 students will be attending an Assembly to announce our 2021 Junior School leaders. It was uplifting to witness many of our Year 5 students as they presented their leadership speeches recently. As always, it is a difficult decision to decide who our leaders will be but I’d like to sincerely congratulate every student who applied for positions and we must remember that you don’t require a badge to be a great leader.
On our final day of the school year, our students will meet and spend time with their 2021 classroom teacher in preparation for next year.
Finally, I’d like to wish all our students and their families a peaceful, safe Christmas and a refreshing break.
I will look forward to welcoming every student back to CGS on Monday 1 February for what I hope will be a less disrupted year in which we can enjoy all our wonderful CGS events.

4N Having Fun in the Senior School
The students of 4N have enjoyed visiting the Senior School and experiencing some lessons!
Their first class included a lesson with Mr Peter Young. The students were very excited to be wearing aprons and visiting the woodwork room for the very first time. Mr Young showed the students different types of timber and how to use sandpaper. The students then created their very own keyring and fridge magnet to take home.
The following week 4N was lucky enough to visit the Science labs and join in lessons with some Year 7 and 9 students. Mr Daniel Isgro kindly organised a special experiment for the students. They witnessed ‘Elephants Toothpaste’ being produced and the students were fascinated by the chemical reaction!
2020 has been a challenging year with many excursions being cancelled, this was a wonderful opportunity for 4N students to enjoy some learning outside the classroom. Next week the students are looking forward to visiting the music department and learning about musical instruments. A big thank you to all those secondary teachers who kindly gave up their time to educate the Junior School students at Casey Grammar School.
