Young Film Makers Festival
Over the course of Term 3 students in Years 7 -12 were invited to take part in the Young Filmmaker’s Festival; a short film competition held during iso.
The competition gave the students the chance to work on a creative project during lockdown and all entrants have the chance to win prizes!
With only a few weeks remaining in the challenge,we want to take this opportunity to remind students it is still not too late to enter!
Entries close Wednesday 4 November (following Cup weekend).
Students can film a short narrative, music video clip, animation, dance routine, sports video, reality TV show, a gic act, stop motion, monologue, duologue, documentary, vlog – the possibilities are endless!
Entry information was emailed to all students earlier in Term 3 via SEQTA, and any interested students are welcome to contact Miss Burns should they have any questions.
We can’t wait to see how the projects turn out!

Science Talent Show
Casey Grammar had 20 entrants in this year’s Science Talent Search.
The theme this year was “Deep Blue: Innovations for the future of our oceans”. The competition was run very differently to previous years as the judging was all done via electronic submission and students had to video themselves explaining the work they had submitted.
Our Year 7 entrants submitted creative writing pieces based on this theme. Unfortunately, there were no prizes awarded to Casey Grammar School students in this section. Better luck next year!
Our Year 8 entrants submitted videos based on ‘Rocks and the Rock Cycle’. Four Casey Grammar School students received bursary awards. The successful students were as follow:
Emily O’Keefe (Major Bursary)
Geordie Batten (Minor Bursary)
Kiarah Coliphus (Minor Bursary)
Jugal Anish (Minor Bursary)
An online personalised school based presentation ceremony will be held online on Monday 16 November at 3:20pm. Further details to come.

During the first remote learning period, ome of our students from Years 7 to 10 participated in The Big Science Completion. Those who participated undertook a 50-minute, multiple choice test. Students were assessed on their scientific knowledge, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. Questions were set in real-life, contemporary contexts, making them relatable… and interesting!
Awards presented were as follow:
Year 8: High Distinction (Jack Witterick); Credit (James Dawson; Tiyanie Fernando)
Year 9: Credit (Samuel Kubik)
Year 10: High Distinction (Ijaz Koya; Patrick Kleverlaan); Credit (Madison Legg; Jemma McClounan; Mustafa Kezras)
All other students received a certificate of Participation.
Casey Grammar School would like to congratulations to all students who participated in this year’s Science Talent Search and Big Science Competitions. Well done!
The Zoo STEM Design Challenge - Animals at Home
The Casey Grammar School Science Department is looking for students in Years 7-10 who are interested in participating in this year’s STEM Design Challenge. Students will use their STEM skills, knowledge and an engineering framework called Design Thinking to design solutions for animals featured in the Animals at Home live streams.
Student STEM teams will be treated to a Virtual Zoo Excursion and have an expert educator working remotely to talk directly to them. This competition links to the Victorian Curriculum Levels 7-10: Science, Design & Technologies, Mathematics, Critical and Creative Thinking.
