House Competition
This year’s House Swimming Carnival at Noble Park Aquatic Centre was a resounding success, with strong attendance from most year levels and perfect weather to match. The day was filled with thrilling races and an incredible sense of House support, as students cheered passionately from poolside.
The carnival atmosphere was further enhanced by lively music, creative Year 12 dress-ups, henna hand painting and spirited House chants, fostering a sense of competition, camaraderie and fun.
In addition to the traditional races, there were entertaining novelty events and a popular waterslide, which added to the day’s enjoyment. The competition heated up outside the pool with enthusiastic House chants, where Booth House triumphed, showcasing their excellent team spirit and unity.
In the end, Trist House claimed victory in the swimming competition, narrowly edging out Reid House in a thrilling finish.
Overall, the carnival was a fantastic display of school spirit, teamwork and friendly rivalry. Congratulations to all who participated.
Harmony Week
One of the highlights on the Term 1 calendar is Harmony Week. This celebration is a wonderful opportunity for us to recognise and embrace our diversity, bringing together Australians from various backgrounds. Harmony Week is all about inclusiveness, mutual respect and fostering a sense of belonging.
The week was packed with engaging activities, from the competitive staff vs student cricket match (the teachers did not stand a chance) to special lunch orders and cooking classes. Lunchtime cultural performances and our vibrant cultural dress day added to the excitement, offering numerous ways for everyone to participate and feel part of our amazing CGS community.
A special thanks to all the students and staff who got involved and shared their time and stories, and a heartfelt thank you to Mrs Riviere-Pendle for her exceptional organisation of the week’s events.

Year 8 Science: Bringing Cells to Life
Our Year 8 science students recently showcased their creativity and scientific understanding by constructing 3-D models of plant and animal cells using a variety of materials. From Play-Doh and Lego, to recycled household items, students crafted detailed representations of organelles, demonstrating their knowledge of cell structures and their functions.
This hands-on activity allowed students to explore the complexity of cells in an engaging way, reinforcing their learning while fostering innovation. It was fantastic to see their enthusiasm and attention to detail, with models featuring everything from mitochondria to vacuoles.
Well done to all our budding scientists for their outstanding efforts in bringing biology to life.
