Class of 2024

Our thoughts have been with the Class of 2024 as they completed their VCE exams under very difficult circumstances this year, after it was revealed that many exams had been compromised due to leaked questions. I commend our students who demonstrated great resilience during this time of immense media and social pressure. They continued to focus on their studies and did not let the media storm distract them from their main purpose. We look forward to 12 December when results will be published, confident that our students have performed to the best of their ability.

The past two weeks have been extremely busy with lots of important end of year events. Senior School special events included a very successful Year 12 Leadership retreat, VCE Information Night, Year 7 Orientation Day, Year 7 Information Night, Senior School Art Exhibition and early commencement of 2025 classes.

In Junior School our 2025 Foundation students have enjoyed a series of transition mornings and have made some new friends. The Junior School Summer Concert was a joyous celebration of music, culminating in a wonderful glow-stick finale performed by the Year 3 students.

Staffing

As the school year draws to an end, we bid a sad farewell to staff who are moving on next year. We wish them all the best in their career moves and/or retirement. Farewell to Mr Peter Tutera, Mr Michael O’Connor, Ms Brittany Schulz, Ms Nicole Morphett, Mrs Marisa Smit, Mr Conor Sneddon and Mr Nelson Puvanendiran.

Our thoughts will also be with Ms Emily Driessen and Ms Natalie Burns over the coming weeks as they await the birth of their babies.

Uniform Shop

The school holidays provide a great opportunity to restock uniform items which your child has grown out of or worn out. Attached is the revised and updated Casey Grammar School Uniform list. Please note that by 2025, all students should have blue trousers and shorts. Students should also have the new school tie which was introduced as part of our 30th Anniversary celebrations. It replaces the tartan tie.

Items which need close attention include

  • Dresses which are too short. Please note that dresses should be the same length as shorts – on the knee. Many students have grown taller and their dresses have become too short. Please let hems down or buy new dresses if your child’s dresses are shorter than school shorts.
  • Incorrect socks. Please stock up on school socks. The short blue socks with red and white stripes should be worn with navy trousers, shorts and the winter tunic in Senior School. In Junior School, long blue socks are worn with the winter tunic. Short white socks are worn with the summer dress. White sports socks with blue and red stripes are the official sport sock and should not be worn with the summer dress.
  • Please note that the school shorts or trousers may be worn all year round. They should be worn with blue school socks with red and white stripes.

Holiday Reading

If you are looking for some holiday reading, I highly recommend The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt. Jonathan Haidt is a social psychologist who believes the mental health crisis we are currently witnessing amongst our young people has been driven by the mass adoption of smartphones, along with the advent of social media and addictive online gaming. He calls it ‘the Great Rewiring of Childhood.’ I found his book compelling.

As our school year comes to a close, I extend my grateful thanks to all Casey Grammar School community members for the continued support of the school and particularly our students. I look forward to seeing our students continue to grow in 2025.

Wishing you and your family a very merry Christmas and a relaxing summer holiday.
