Lest We Forget

Each year as a nation, we pause to remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country as well as those who have had life altering impacts as a result of war and service. At Casey Grammar, we remember in a range of ways that involve our whole school community.

We sold badges and bracelets, raising $260.00 for the important work of the RSL with veterans and their families. A huge thanks to everyone who supported this initiative.

Junior School Captains and Social Justice Captains attended the Remembrance Day service at the Cranbourne War Memorial and proudly laid a wreath on behalf of the school.

Junior School classes did a range of activities including art activities and watching a service hosted by our Junior School Captains and Social Justice Captains.

As a Senior School, we gathered in the PAC for a shared service, hosted by our 2025 Captains. An absolute highlight was the reflection provided by Avery (Year 11) about her much-loved grandparents who both met as a result of the war effort.

Her family has a strong connection to the military. It was a reminder that even amidst the darkness and grief of war, good can be found. Sincerest thanks to Avery for sharing this reflection.

“My grandpa has always been strong willed, kind and always willing to help people in need. As I get older I find myself looking up to him more and admiring the beautiful relationship he has with my grandma. If not for both of them being part of the war effort then they wouldn’t have met each other. With 52 years of marriage and a wonderful family to help them in their old age, I couldn’t ask for a better family and a better role model to look up to.”

I would like to close with a prayer resource I found on the theme of Remembrance Day.

God, it’s difficult to see the point of wearing a poppy,
or what difference a minutes’ silence will make
But we can recognise a broken life being valued,
a gift being given,
and taking a minute to reflect on how much we have.

We look to the future, not to the past.
We cannot change what has been
but do not need to repeat its mistakes.

So as old and young come together before you,
take the very best of our lives;
bind us, and help us to share our common values,
to care for each other; to build dreams,
and, with your Holy Spirit,
turn them into reality.
Amen.

Every blessing to you all in the week ahead.
