Book Week 2024
Book Week is a fantastic celebration of Australian books and the authors and illustrators who have brought the stories into our classrooms and homes. Whilst we celebrate the books on the shortlist and winners of the Children’s Book Council of Australia awards, the week provides a unique opportunity to talk about all literature and what it means to each person; memories of reading the book with a loved one; the one that got us back into reading when we thought it was a past time that we no longer enjoyed; a story that truly transported us to another world. Then there is the constant debate — which was better, the book or the movie?
Book Week dress up day is Friday, 23 August. This is an opportunity for all students, in both the Junior and Senior Schools, to dress up as their favourite book character and talk to others about the book that inspired their costume. It is also a great way to end Book Week. Whilst it can be fun to go all out, costumes don’t need to be elaborate. It can be items found around the house that have been modified with a little creativity and maybe a hot glue gun. The focus is on the conversations that can be had around reading. We look forward to seeing all the students in their chosen costumes on our dress-up day.
