Beauty and the Beast Excursion

Our Years 9 and 10 Drama and VCE Music and Drama classes were able to attend the current production of Beauty and the Beast on 28 August as part of curriculum study in each subject. It was a fabulous performance and a lovely afternoon that our students thoroughly enjoyed, despite a crosstown hike through the rain to get to our bus due to roadworks.

“The latest production of Beauty and the Beast at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Melbourne is a visual and auditory delight, captivating audiences with its stunning set design and exceptional performances. There were state-of-the-art audio and video effects such as dropdowns and moving sets. There were also many lighting states and audio effects. Overall, the production was a complete amazement in drama and technical works.”

“Drama excursions are always a highlight of the year and Beauty and the Beast was no exception. One aspect of the day that makes these events so memorable is the quality time you get to spend with your classmates and teachers, alongside fellow Performing Arts students across the Senior School, to foster positive relationships, beneficial for both in the classroom setting to develop a supportive environment, and act as an icebreaker to establish cross-cohort levels of trust for our own school productions.

These memories, like the laughs during lunch, bus trip sessions and our reactions when amazed at the spectacles in the performance, were the highlights of the day. In terms of Beauty and the Beast, the musical was nothing short of what you would expect to experience from a big Disney production. The large budget was evident through the amazing theatre technologies at their disposal and the spectacular array of props, sets and costumes.

The character of Chip was a fan favourite with his adorable nature, and a scene that really stood out to me was that featuring the song ‘Gaston’, as the timing of the mug routine was impressive. Overall, the musical was not shy of any wow factor moments and is easily up there for one of my favourite performances I have had the pleasure of watching.”
