Junior School Report
Recently Ms Trompeuse, Ms Burns and Mrs Willett escorted our very talented team of tech savvy students to the Outer Eastern Regional Robocup competition. We had a most successful day bringing home first, second and third place in each of the two categories that we entered. It was a day of excitement, community spirit and Ms Trompeuse couldn’t have been prouder of our students. Congratulations to all.
What an exciting Olympic Games we have witnessed in Paris earlier this term. In addition to our engaging and creative Potato Olympics, we were also entertained by the stunning 4B Olympics assembly. The students showcased the Olympic Games history and its journey to modern times. We were delighted to see mascots, past Olympians, the lighting of the flame and the raising of the Olympic flag on the big stage. Bravo to Mr Bell and his very talented students!
2H hosted our assembly last week and what an amazing performance it was! The catalyst for their assembly was their recent excursion to the Dandenong Ranges where a Parks Vic ranger, Julia, taught our students about Victoria’s rich habitats and biodiversity. 2H’s assembly involved the retelling of a conservation story, ‘Spectacular Splendid Swamps’ and the biodiversity of our own school. Students did a marvelous job promoting what we can do as a school to look after our school environment. Well done to Mrs Harrison and her super students!
Over the past three weeks, CGS students have been involved in reading and raisings funds for the MS readathon. I’m proud to report that we have raised a total of $2403 to date. Well done to all students who took part.
Book Week has commenced this week and we are looking forward to our annual Book Week Dress Up Day on Friday. I’m looking forward to seeing all the wonderful book character costumes. Thanks to our wonderful Library staff for organising this event and our Book Week incursions.

On Friday August 9th our Junior School Robotics team had an amazing time at the Outer Eastern Robocup competition. Students from Year 4 to Year 6 spent several lunchtimes over the past two terms building and coding soccer playing robots out of LEGO EV3 components. The competition was an incredible opportunity for students to come together with kids from other schools with a similar love for STEM.
We competed in two events, Simple Simon Soccer and Standard League soccer. Our teams represented the school amazingly, with others noticing our sportsmanship, and the way our students cheered on the opposing team when a goal was scored. They also stepped up by supporting other teams, helping them troubleshoot their robots when things went wrong. I am incredibly proud of all students who competed on the day.
Congratulations to the winners of Simple Simon, the Soccer Squad, and the comedically named Delusionals for winning Standard League!
As for what’s next after RoboCup? Our Grade 6 Leaders are working on some brand new tech club ideas to carry us through Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes to the end of the year, so watch this space!
