From the Head of Junior School

Welcome back to Term 3! We commenced this term with a Junior School Welcome assembly. We gathered to reflect on our Term 2 experiences and celebrate our achievements. Congratulations to our students who were the recipients of our prestigious Values awards. These awards recognize students who have exemplified our school values over the past term. These values—respect, integrity, inclusion, compassion and excellence—are the foundation of our school community.

Olympics are a time of global unity and incredible athletic feats. We've been inspired by the dedication and sportsmanship displayed by athletes from around the world. In the spirit of the Olympics, we celebrated with our very own CGS Potato Olympics. I hope all our students enjoyed this unique experience.

Our Year 3 students recently attended an educational excursion to Old Gippstown. It was a journey back in time where they learned about the history and heritage of our region. They enjoyed old fashioned games, a lesson with a “grumpy” headmaster and a ride on an antique fire truck. Thanks to Miss Nolan, Mrs Brown, Miss Sutherland, Mrs Willett, Mrs Barnes and our student teacher, Miss Smith for making this excursion possible.

Here’s to a wonderful term ahead!

Foundation News

It has been an exciting, action-packed return to school for Term 3. It has been wonderful seeing our Foundation students reconnect with one another, hear all about their holiday adventures, and also get into some hands-on and highly engaging learning. We have enjoyed learning more about the Olympic Games, the events, the athletes, special Olympic traditions and symbols, as well as the values associated with this very special event, including persistence, teamwork, sportsmanship and dedication.

Our Foundation students were very excited to participate in our very special CGS Potato Olympics, in which each student created and decorated their own potato athlete who then had the chance to compete in a range of Olympic themed events. Each event was specifically designed to develop particular mathematical skills and competencies, including length, distance, time and a range of number concepts.

From gymnastics and skateboarding, to shotput and javelin, it was wonderful for students to develop their mathematical skills in this hands-on, meaningful way, whilst also learning more about the real Olympic Games.

In addition to this very special event, Foundation students have also enjoyed having a special visit from Buddy our wellbeing dog. It was wonderful to learn more about Buddy and to have him in our classroom.

This term welcomes many exciting events and milestones for our foundation students, including celebrating their 100 days of School, Book Week, Science Week and many more. We are looking forward to a wonderful, memorable term.

What a Knight!

It has been a very exciting start to Term 3 with all our students from Years 3 - 6 beginning rehearsals for our Junior School production of ‘What A Knight!’. This year we had over 60 students from Years 5 and 6 audition for a role in our production.

Over the coming weeks these students will be very busy memorising their lines, songs and choreography routines in preparation for our two shows which are being held in our Performing Arts Centre, on the 18th and 19th September. Our billboard will be going up soon – so keep a look out for that!
