From the Head of Senior School
Welcome to the final newsletter for Term 2.
In the Senior School, with mid-year exams behind us, we have launched into two weeks of ‘Early Commencement’, with students in Years 7 to 10 receiving updated timetables, taking new electives and meeting new teachers. Reports are set to be distributed, and this will bring an opportunity to look back over the first semester’s grades and set goals for the second half of the school year.
We proudly recognised the achievements of so many Senior School students in Tuesday’s Awards Assembly, announcing the recipients of Academic Awards and Colours, SIS Sport Best and Fairest and House Athletics age group champions, as well as having a recap of the House competition from first semester. Congratulations to all students who have shown commitment and growth in their studies and through the co-curricular offerings at CGS.
Coinciding with Early Commencement, Year 10 students set off to their retreat at Camp Manyung last week. There were plenty of opportunities for fun and challenging physical activities, as well as strengthening friendships and creating lasting memories, but the overall focus of the retreat was to explore the themes of ‘Where have I come from?’, ‘Who am I?’ and ‘Where am I going?’. Special thanks to all the staff who planned and attended the retreat, introducing this for the first time as a part of our Senior School camps program.
Now that holidays are upon us, I encourage you to rest and rejuvenate, to spend quality time with family and friends, and to strike a balance between leisure and academic commitments during the break. Please take a little time to check that your children have all uniform items ready to wear on the first day of Term 3 — a little reminder that sport uniform should not be worn to and from school, as students should change before and after practical sessions.
I look forward to welcoming you back to school on Tuesday 23 July.
