National Careers Week

In Week 5, Casey Grammar School celebrated National Careers Week. It was a busy week filled with engaging career education activities designed to encourage our students to ‘Discover who you are’.

National Careers Week is an initiative of the Career Industry Council of Australia (CICA) and aims to celebrate careers and career development. Career development is a process of managing learning, work and leisure to progress through life. It includes gaining and using the skills and knowledge needed to plan and make informed decisions about education, training and work.

Below is a snapshot of some of the events that occurred:

Industry Guest Speakers

On Monday 13 May and Tuesday 14 May, our Senior School students had the opportunity to attend information sessions delivered by industry representatives. The sessions focussed on ‘Careers in Engineering’ and ‘Careers in Design’, and we were lucky enough to have local professionals attend the school to share their personal career journeys.

Over 140 students attended these sessions over the two days, and the feedback received was very positive. What better way to learn about the many career pathways that exist within the engineering and design disciplines than from experts in their fields.

Subject Selection Expo

A big thank you to everyone who attended the Subject Selection Expo on Tuesday 14 May. Over 300 people attended the event, over the two hours. The expo provided both students and their parents/guardians the opportunity to better understand the options available to them at Casey Grammar School. It was a busy night, with teaching staff providing detailed information regarding their subjects, to support informed decision making.

Victorian Careers Show

On Thursday 16 May, our Year 12 students had the opportunity to attend the Victorian Careers Show, held at the Melbourne Showgrounds. The purpose of this excursion was to provide meaningful opportunities for our Year 12 cohort to explore post-CGS career options. The Victorian Careers Show featured exhibitors from over 100 tertiary providers and industry representatives, and our students did themselves and the school proud in the way they engaged with the event.

It was a great day. I found it both informative and exciting to learn about all the career options available to me. Molly T, Year 12

National Careers Week – Competition Winners

The week concluded with a Dress Up Day on Friday 17 May. How wonderful it was to see so many students (and staff) taking the opportunity to dress up in costumes that reflected career pathways of interest.

Congratulations to our ‘best dressed’ winners (Senior School):

Logan R (Year 11): Army

Kamalesh M (Year 12): Doctor

I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Alankrita S (Year 1) for the winning submission for the Careers Week colouring competition. Well done, Alankrita.

Thank you to everyone who participated.
