From the Head of Junior School

Our recent Year 4 overnight City Camp provided students with valuable educational experiences including trips to the MCG and the Eureka Skydeck. Through guided tours and interactive exhibits our students gained insights into Melbourne’s sporting culture, history and architectural marvels.

The camp also fostered teamwork and comaraderie among our students. The trip was both educational and enjoyable and I am sure it has left students with memories that will last a lifetime.

Our Year 5 camp was held at The Ranch in Boneo on the Mornington Peninsula. It was a thrilling adventure camp. It provided our students with enriching outdoor experiences while fostering teamwork and personal growth. The camp took place over three days and highlights included horse riding, the giant swing, the flying fox and hot chips! It was definitely an unforgettable experience for our students, and I certainly enjoyed my time there.

The camp simply would not have been possible without the incredible efforts of our staff, Mrs Sarah Black, Ms Jess Burns, Mrs Rox Levett, Ms Elody Trompeuse, Mrs Sandra Torcasio, Mrs Dayle Barnes and Mrs Mandy Barr. My sincerest thanks go to each of you!

Last week, we were delightfully entertained by FL as they presented their heartwarming Mother’s Day assembly. Their assembly celebrated the love and appreciation for their mums while providing a delightful experience for both the young performers and the audience.

Through their adorable performances and heartfelt gestures, the young students succeeded in conveying their love and appreciation for their mums. It was a touching tribute to all our CGS mothers, grandmothers and special friends which left a lasting impression on all of us. Well done to Mrs Laidlaw and her enthusiastic performers.

Our F–2 classrooms were abuzz with activity last Friday morning as our students entertained their mums or special friend for a Mother’s Day celebration. Thanks to all who attended and our teachers for organising such a fabulous event for our students.

Sincere thanks to our wonderful PFC for organising our wonderful Mother’s Day morning tea and for yet again running our Mother’s Day stall. Gifts were lovingly selected by our students, and I hope you all enjoy opening them on Sunday morning.

I hope all our CGS mums, grandmothers and special friends had a Happy Mother’s Day!

Year 4 City Camp

Our Year 4 students embarked on an enriching journey to Melbourne for a city camp filled with exploration, learning, and many exciting experiences. This overnight stay at CYC City Camp in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD, aimed to broaden the horizons of our young learners and acquaint then with some of the city’s most iconic landmarks.

We ascended to new heights at the Eureka Skydeck, located atop the Eureka Tower, one of the tallest buildings in the Southern Hemisphere. From the observation deck on the 88th floor, students marvelled at panoramic views of Melbourne’s skyline. Those students brave enough, tested their nerves by taking a ride in the glass cube known as The Edge.

The students were excited to visit the legendary MCG. Guided by knowledgeable staff, the students delved into the rich history of Australian sports and had the opportunity to explore the hallowed grounds where countless sporting legends have made their mark.

Our adventure culminated with a visit to Bounce, where students unleashed their energy and creativity in a thrilling environment filled with trampolines, obstacle courses, rock climbing and adrenaline-pumping challenges. This exhilarating experience fostered teamwork, resilience, and confidence as students tackled various physical activities under the guidance of trained instructors.

The Year 4 City Camp was a resounding success, providing students with unforgettable memories and valuable insights into the vibrant tapestry of urban life. Through hands-on exploration and immersive experiences, our young learners not only deepened their understanding of Melbourne’s cultural heritage and landmarks but also forged lasting friendships and developed important life skills.

Leaver Fundraiser – Lip Sync for Leaver 20–24 May

Leaver House is hosting a Lip Sync Battle for all students from Years 3–6 to raise money for Variety – The Childrens Charity. Each year level will be given ONE LUNCHTIME to battle it out in the PAC for their chance to be chosen to perform at the LIP SYNC FOR LEAVER SHOWCASE on Friday 24 May. To participate, students need to get into groups of three or more, pick a song to lip sync to and rehearse some dance moves. They then sign up using this link http://teams.polly.ai/vote/FLWHX5.

Good luck to all the students who have already signed up!
