How many times have you volunteered at Backpacks?

Jay: I’ve volunteered at Backpacks twice, though I aim to attend as many times as possible in the future.

Sophie: Throughout high school, I have visited Backpack 4 Kids around six times, each being more exciting than the next.

What makes you want to volunteer there?

Jay: Backpacks provides children going through incredibly challenging times with necessities and care, and this cause is something quite inspirational. I am able to contribute to the well-being of others and do something positive for myself as well.

What is the best part of the experience?

Sophie: I enjoy volunteering at this organisation because not only am I providing such a positive influence on many children's lives, but also, which I could admit as the best experience from participating, is the fulfilling feeling of giving so much to young people under troubling circumstances. It takes so little of my time to help them in their lives.

Jay: The best part of the experience is the hands-on work alongside like-minded people. Whether it is putting batteries in torches, sorting through donations or even packing the backpacks, all the jobs are important, and each helps the incredible team at Backpacks create as many backpacks as possible.

What would you say to someone thinking of coming along?

Jay: Volunteering at Backpacks is certainly a very fulfilling experience. There is a variety of jobs at every stage in the production line of the backpacks and every one is filled with purpose. It’s only a few hours out of a day, but the work put in translates into something incredibly meaningful to the children who receive the backpacks.

Sophie: I recommend that other students join such an experience; it is a great opportunity to blossom friendships with other year levels and helps achieve a greater sense of personal satisfaction and growth.
