Careers Week
We cherish the opportunity to reconnect with our Alumni, and during this year’s National Careers Week we welcomed back Stacy and Brooke to Casey Grammar. Brooke spent several years in both Junior School and Senior School at CGS, and Stacy was in the graduating Class of 2015. Along with Mr Stuart Collidge, they formed a panel who spoke about their career journeys during last week’s Senior School Assembly. Mr Collidge’s pathway into education began as a musician in the Royal Australian Navy. Brooke has transitioned from Victoria Police and is now working as an Integrity Officer for Basketball Australia, and Stacy trained as a nurse and midwife immediately after finishing high school. Their advice to the students in the audience was to establish a career that allows you to follow your passions.
We finished National Careers Week with a career-inspired free-dress day with gold coin donations for the not-for-profit organisation Pinchapoo. Students came to school dressed in outfits representing a wide array of jobs and careers, including healthcare workers, the race car industry, movie stars, fast food team members, the sporting industry, and professionals. Great effort everyone!
Thanks go to all who supported the Subject Selection Expo last week. This was a great opportunity for families to engage in discussions with teachers about the various subjects on offer and make informed decisions in lead up to the subject selection process for 2024. Students should have received an email with a link and login details for the Subject Selection Portal which will remain open until 8 June.
Student Attendance
With the subject selection process underway, I take this opportunity to remind families of the expectations for students to attend school every day, unless there is a valid reason for their absence. Approved absences include illness with a medical certificate, attendance at a school-approved activity such as excursions, camps or SIS competitions, bereavement or for significant religious reasons.
A student needs to attend sufficient class time to complete work and demonstrate an understanding of course content, particularly with VCE subjects. Students wishing to undertake an accelerated VCE subject (Units 1/2 in Year 10, or Units 3/4 in Year 11) must meet the requirements for their application to be approved and for them to maintain their enrolment in this subject. In most cases, this will require at least a ‘progressing’ standard in all subjects, as well as a minimum 95% attendance during and in the year prior to undertaking this subject.
Student Lunches
Families can pre-order school lunches for Thursdays and Fridays through the Flexischools app.
It is concerning to note that some students have ordered Uber Eats for delivery to the school during school hours. This method of ordering food is in breach of our Mobile Phone Policy, and such deliveries do not follow our process that expects all visitors to report to Reception.
Families are asked to support the school in ensuring that this does not occur in the future.
