Careers Week

In week 5 we celebrated Careers Week and it was wonderful in the Senior School to hear from both former students and one of our teachers regarding their journeys to where they are now. The future, yet unknown, beckons our students but it can also be a confusing time when so much is uncertain. I was reminded of the theologian Frederick Buechner’s explanation of a vocation as, where “your deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet”.

It’s a powerful reminder that some jobs really do have a sense of ‘calling’ – and to do them well, the person must have a deep sense of their reason for doing it. I have great respect for people who do so many jobs that I know I could not do for a wide range of reasons, and appreciate the sense of call they must have to do it well.

I believe that God provides each of our students with skills and passions that when pursued will give them a great sense of purpose and hopefully in time, a sense of personal accomplishment. Who knows in the future what needs of individuals and our society more broadly will be met through the dedicated work of former CGS students?

Reconciliation Week

As NAIDOC Week occurs during our holidays, we are excited to be celebrating National Reconciliation Week next week. The theme is ‘Be a voice for generations’ and encourages us all to consider how we can all play a part in advocating for reconciliation both now and in the future. Please take the time to read through the letter sent home explaining the various activities we have planned.

As a Christian school, the concept of reconciliation is central. The story of God reconciling with humanity is the basis of the Christian story. Given the damaging decisions often made by people in the name of the Christian faith within First Nations communities, we have a responsibility to ensure that we do what we can to acknowledge those wrongs and participate in whatever small ways we can towards a more reconciled future.

There are a wide range of events being held all across the state that you may be interested in attending. Simply go to the official website: https://nrw.reconciliation.org.au/calendar/ and select ‘Victoria’. There are music performances, artists speaking about their work, forums and photography exhibits, film screenings and a walking tour.

As a school community, we look forward to sharing in the week and showing respect through our actions to the traditional owners of the land we gather on.

Every blessing to you all in the week ahead
