It has been wonderful to welcome students and staff back to school after our mid-semester break. I hope that families enjoyed the holidays and have returned feeling refreshed and excited for a busy term ahead.
We have already enjoyed many major events on our school calendar in just a few short weeks.
Congratulations to those who represented CGS at the recent SIS Division Swimming Carnival and SIS Public Speaking, and good luck to those who have started competing in SIS Sport and the DAV Debating Teams.
House Athletics Carnival
We headed to Casey Fields on Friday 5 May for our annual House Athletics Carnival. The participation of our students in track and field, as well as the support from the stands, was excellent. The competition was incredibly close, but Reid managed to hold on for the win yet again this year. We look forward to recognising individual achievements in the Week 5 Assembly.
SIS Public Speaking
On Friday, whilst everyone else braved the chilly winds to compete in House Athletics, Ms Weiler accompanied eight talented individuals, who were competing in the SIS Public Speaking, to Flinders Christian College. For this competition, students presented one prepared speech and then had five minutes to develop a spontaneous impromptu speech.
Our Junior team included: Nethuli J, Theeshana T and Ekam G (all Year 7).
The Intermediate team included: Anushka A (Year 10), Guvani R (Year 9), Naaz K and Malalai K (Year 8).
And our sole Senior competitor: James Dawson (Year 11).
As you can tell, we have a young team, but their success speaks for itself with CGS coming in 3rd place in both the Junior and the Senior level.
Year 12 Formal
On Saturday evening, our Year 12 students came together at Settlers Run for the much awaited Formal. This is one of several significant moments in their final year after 13 long years of schooling. Students celebrated in style alongside many of their teachers. The Formal may have coincided with the coronation of King Charles III in London, but looking at their photos, I am confident that our students were dressed like royalty that evening!

Sports Excellence
Jack Brewster had a very successful Australian National Athletics championships in Brisbane coming home with a third in the triple jump and a top 10 finish in the 100 metres, ranking him as the second fastest Victorian.
Billy Bryan competed at States in March where he made three finals and medaled in the 800 free, which was amazing. He was then lucky enough over the Easter weekend to compete at Nationals in the 14–15 medley relay team with Casey Tigersharks.
