At Casey Grammar we are very proud of all staff and their achievements. Throughout the year, we will highlight a different staff member within each newsletter to introduce you to some members you perhaps haven't had the pleasure of meeting yet. This week, we had a chat with Melissa Roberton.
Name: Melissa Roberton
Position: Head of Junior School
Qualifications: Bachelor of Education
When did you join Casey Grammar?
I joined Casey Grammar School as the first Prep teacher when the school opened its doors in January 1994. CGS was originally known as Cranbourne Christian Community College and for our first two years, we were located in the Library building next to the basketball courts. We commenced with 57 students, three teachers and Evelyn Sayers as our inaugural principal. This is the thirtieth year that I have worked at our wonderful school and I consider it a privilege. I have seen the school grow to an enrolment of over 1000 students, we now have over one hundred staff and we have such incredible facilities. We have certainly come a long way!
How would you describe what you do in a few lines?
My position is the Head of Junior School and it is an honour to oversee and lead our F-6 students and staff. Every day brings something different to my role. Joys, challenges and accomplishments are all regular parts of my job.
What do you love most about your job and why?
The thing I most enjoy about my job is spending time with our students, whether that be in the classroom, out in the playground, on camps or at assemblies. I am so fortunate to be in the enviable position of seeing our students grow and develop from bright-eyed, eager five year olds to well educated, positive young adults. Our students, their families and our staff are the fabric of our wonderful school and to work with all CGS stakeholders is so rewarding.
Tell us about your most memorable Casey Grammar experience?
There are simply far too many moments to mention just one memorable CGS experience, but I would have to say that our Junior School assemblies are a huge highlight for me! We started assemblies in 1994 and throughout the past 30 years, on Thursday mornings, I have been entertained and delighted by our students as they produce and perform unique assemblies each week.
What’s one thing on your bucket list?
I plan to travel back to Europe with my treasured family and fabulous friends to celebrate my 60th birthday in the not too distant future.
