My sincere thanks to all Junior School parents who attended our recent Parent Information Evening.

It was a great opportunity for parents/guardians to meet their children’s teachers and hear about the exciting year ahead. The ongoing support of our parent body is very much appreciated.

Many thanks also to our fabulous classroom teachers who put in such a big day. It is not an easy feat to teach 25 students all day, then present to parents until 8:00 pm. Your efforts were much appreciated.

Last week we were thrilled to commence our Year 6 Interschool Sports competition. Students participated in soccer, netball and t-ball, and we came away with three wins out of five. Most importantly, our students really enjoyed the experience and their skills improved throughout the matches. Thanks to Miss Kipping, Mr Byrnes-Nelson, Miss Sakeson, Miss Sutherland and Mrs Black for coaching our sport teams.

After two postponements, we are very excited to welcome our Foundation students and their families to our Foundation Welcome BBQ this afternoon. Thanks to our hardworking members of the school PFC for organising and staffing this event.

Years 3–6 students participated in our Junior School Cross Country Carnival this week. Congratulations to all participants and a special mention to our ribbon recipients on their outstanding results.

We look forward to our Junior School Commissioning Service and our Junior School District Swimming Carnival that are taking place later this week.

Year 5/6 Band Program

Our Year 5/6 Band Program is up and running for the third year in a row, with a record number of 30 students enrolled. The first couple of weeks have been spent experiencing a variety of orchestral instruments, and students have begun tuition on their chosen instrument. 

They are all very excited to take home their instruments and practice, ready for their first orchestral performance at our Winter Concert on 22 June.

Year 5 News

It’s been a great start to 2023 for our Year 5 students. Some students from 5L have shared their reflections below.

The Amazing Narratives

Year 5 has been amazing so far! We’ve been doing a lot of fun things and made so many new friends.

I’ve loved every single part of year 5, whether it’s small, or big! My personal highlight is writing narratives. Our teacher would give us a random (but exciting) picture. 

First, we would look at the picture and describe what we could see. After looking at the picture thoroughly, we would start to write a narrative based on the picture. It was fun to turn a random picture into an exciting and thrilling narrative! It was also challenging to write a whole narrative based on just one picture, but that just made it even more fun!

What I like the most about our class is the banking system. We use a website called Banqer that helps us earn online money (not real money of course)! We all have jobs to do and if we finish them, we get some online money! I love my job as the class journalist because I get to write in the newsletter and take photos on important days! There are many other jobs like runners, messengers, craft cleaners, the homework squad, diary secretaries, librarians, portfolio managers, a sustainability monitor, tech ninjas, the daily timetable team and the bankers that give us the money we earn! Start of school Adventures!

Year 5 has been one of my most favourite years in primary school. Everyone has settled in, and we have all been doing very fun activities! I can’t wait to do more activities with Mrs Levett! 

There are two favourite things so far that we have been doing. The first is reading about refugees. In class we are reading a book called Refugees. There are three characters: Josef, Isabel and Mahmoud. These characters are trying to escape their country, making them refugees. During each chapter I am on the edge of my seat! 

The second thing I really like doing is the 5/6 Band Ensemble. We had to fill out a form and list preferences from one to eight. It is so fun because you get to play an instrument and you don’t need to know how to play! At the end of the semester, the ensemble will perform in the Winter Concert! Eva

Leaver House Meeting

Last Friday we had our very first Leaver House meeting for 2023, and we were all very excited to get together!

Our House Captains, Aaron and Ivy, did a fabulous job introducing themselves and presenting our Year 3 students with their Leaver certificates. We sang our Leaver Chant and got to know each other a little bit more.

I can’t wait to spend more time with my Leaver Legends in 2023!
