It has been a very exciting start to Term 3 with all students from Years 3 - 6 starting rehearsals for our Junior school production of ‘Starwarts – The Umpire Strikes Back’.

Our fabulous cast, which consists of over thirty students from Years 5 and 6 have been very busy memorising their lines and choreography in preparation for our two shows.

The performances will be held on 14 and 15 September in the Performing Arts Centre. Our billboard will be going up soon – so keep a look out for that!

Music that Inspires

Year 3 student, Jacob N, wanted to share this photo of the Casey Philharmonic Orchestra who played music from a variety of Harry Potter films. He attended on the weekend and really enjoyed the performance.

He was also very excited to meet one of our very own instrumental teachers – Mr Matt Westwood, who plays in the Casey Philharmonic Orchestra.

If you like Harry Potter music or indeed any Superhero/ Villian themed music, please click here for ticket information.

Schools On Stage

Rehearsals are underway for Senior School students competing in the City of Casey’s Schools on Stage Competition.

Schools on Stage invites local schools to compete by performing two songs from a musical before a crowd and judging panel. The event is held annually at Bunjil Place in Narre Warren.

There are two categories:

  • Premier Division:  Schools perform two songs from the school production they produced that year.
  • Open Division:  Schools who haven’t performed a school production in that year.

This year we are competing in the Open Division, performing Seize the Day and Brooklyn’s Here from Disney’s Newsies.

Casey Grammar have had success at the competition in the past, winning overall in both 2011 for Wizard of Oz, and again in 2019 for Matilda.

Due to COVID-19, this will be the first competition in 3 years. The students are looking forward to finally having a performance opportunity after a very long wait!

Some tickets are still available if you’d like to come and support them: www.bunjilplace.com.au/schools-on-stage

  • Adult: $ 20.00
  • Concession/Student: $ 15.00
  • Child: $ 10.00
  • Family: $ 55.00 (two adults and two children/one adult and three children)

Australian Music Examination Board results

Congratulations to Ela C in Year 9 for officially receiving her Grade 4 Flute Grade from the Australian Music Examinations Board.

To achieve this level, Ela needed to prepare several pieces, complete complex technical patterns and demonstrate musical skills including aural awareness, stylistic awareness and an understanding of the history of Western Classical Music.

Ela has put incredible effort into preparing for this exam over the past year - including weekly lessons, accompanist rehearsals and a period of remote learning.

We are incredibly proud of her – well done Ela!

Year 9 & 10 Music Performance Evening

Congratulations to the performers in Year 9 and 10 Music, Semester 1 for their amazing show on the 22nd of June.

The lights were bright, the crowd was enthusiastic, and the sound was electric as we worked our way through a programme of Michael Jackson, Queen, Olivia Rodrigo, Weatus, and AC/DC, to name a few.

Mr Evans and I are very proud of the hard work that went into preparing and executing the show.

A big thank you to Mr Hall and his tech crew for their hard work behind the scenes. Thank you also to the supportive and enthusiastic audience that helped our performers feel welcome on stage.

We look forward to taking the stage with a brand-new show at the end of the year and hope to see you there!

Media Excursion

Last week, the Year 11 and 12 Media classes attended a live taping of ‘The Weekly with Charlie Pickering’ at ABC Studios in Southbank.

The students were privy to the filming aspects of the show, which were aired the following night.

The news broadcast gave students an opportunity to witness the production process required to shoot and edit a television program, enabling them to ask questions of the production crew and well-known comedian host: Charlie Pickering.

It was a wonderfully entertaining and informative behind the scenes experience!
