Celebrating Success

Recently, our school participated in NAPLAN Online for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 students. Students completed the NAPLAN writing, reading and conventions of language and numeracy tests on computers — excluding the Year 3 writing test that was handwritten on paper.

NAPLAN assessments provide parents and schools with an understanding of how individual students are performing at the time of the tests. At Casey Grammar School, we prepare students by embedding the skills and knowledge required for NAPLAN in our classroom teaching.

NAPLAN is not a pass or fail test, but it demonstrates how individual student’s numeracy and literacy skills are progressing against national standards for all Australian children. The results of this testing provide information for students, parents and teachers that is used to improve student achievement. We will also be using the results to celebrate success, inform our planning and to address areas requiring improvement across the school.

For more information about the tests, please visit the NAPLAN website at www.nap.edu.au

I’d like to thank our Library staff, Mrs Diana Thompson, Ms Rebecca Birch and Mrs Vicki Mueller, for running our Book Fair last week. It was a huge success and all the money raised is used to buy more books and resources for our Library. I trust that our students are enjoying reading their new books.

Mr Batey, Mr Newham and Ms Burns took 50 of our Years 3 to 6 students to District Cross Country yesterday. Despite the cold weather conditions, our students did themselves and Casey Grammar School proud. Congratulations to all our competitors and our best wishes to the following students who have advanced to Divisional Cross Country by placing in the top six in their race:

  • Zara M – 3rd place
  • Alarice M – 3rd place
  • Jake D – 3rd place
  • Kobi M – 4th place
  • Isabella S – 6th place
  • Akam S – 6th place

Winter Uniforms

Please be advised that all students are now required to wear full winter uniform as per the 2022 Uniform List in our Junior School Record Book. I am happy to let you know that long navy socks may be worn with the winter tunic in the Junior School. They were accidentally left off the 2022 Uniform List and I apologise for this.

We will be having a uniform blitz for the remainder of the term, so please ensure that your child’s uniform meets our high standards. We pride ourselves on our students wearing their uniform well as this gives students a sense of belonging and enhances their pride in being a member of Casey Grammar School.

Stay safe and well,

Melissa Roberton

Come and Help With Our Vegetable Garden

This term we began Monday morning working bees. Parents and grandparents who are triple vaccinated and who have a Working with Children Check are welcome to come along from 8:15 am – 10:30 am. If you are interested in participating, please email me at m.dunkley@caseygrammar.vic.edu.au. No gardening experience is necessary.

Recently, students from Grade 1H planted some seeds and they will be watching with great interest over the coming weeks to observe how their seeds progress.

Students from various classes went hunting in the pumpkin patch late last term. They found 15 pumpkins, with the heaviest weighing close to 10kg.

Years 5 and 6 students taking the Gardening Elective have been working hard keeping the weeds under control, planting winter veggies and harvesting.

Carnival Games

The Year 4 students have been working through a unit on creating carnival games and challenges.
Student creations have included motors and sensors which required their coding skills to create the desired outcome.

The final task in the unit involved creating a game or ride for a Casey Grammar School Carnival. The end results were very impressive.

District Cross Country

This week, a number of students from Years 3 to 6 competed in the District Cross Country event at Casey Fields after qualifying through our recent House Cross Country. The weather was cold and foggy, arguably perfect Cross Country conditions.

Students from Casey Grammar participated admirably both on and off the course, completing 2 or 3 kilometre runs and showing plenty of support, cheering and encouragement as their peers crossed the finish line.

Casey Grammar finished 5th overall. It was fantastic to see a large number of parents and friends attending in support. Thank-you to Mr Newham, Ms Burns and Miss Woolf for their help and congratulations to all students on their excellent effort and sportsmanship.

Hockey Fun

The Year 6 students have been completing a hockey unit, while working with long time hockey player and coach, Lou Ciriello.  Lou has played and coached for over 40 years and his son, Chris, is a two time Olympic field hockey player, having competing at the 2012 and 2016 Olympic games.

Students have been learning fundamental hockey skills through drills and games and have been playing modified matches. Lou was impressed with the skill levels and progression of the Year 6 students. Lou and his son Chris will be holding hockey clinics during the school holidays for any interested students. Please see the flyer below for further information regarding these clinics.
