We are underway in our final week of school and there are many different events taking place involving students working together from a range of different year levels.
Booth and Reid House Chapel Service
Students worked on the Booth and Reid House Chapel service to conclude the term. This service was on the theme of ‘Inclusion’ and involved guest speakers and students sharing the many ways in which we can make our community a more welcoming place for all.
We were also proud to feature two of our students, Enzo San Pedro and Emily O’Keeffe, who were interviewed about initiatives they are pursuing. Enzo, our inaugural Wellbeing Captain, is launching an ‘elephant in the room’ activity in Wellbeing, seeking to normalise and encourage open conversation about mental health and other challenges students may face.
Emily has been working on her Duke of Edinburgh Award and the volunteering component of the Award has led to her organizing a fundraiser through the Body Shop. Any student wanting to place an order can do so by contacting Emily via SEQTA.
Comfy Clothes Day
With the winter weather well underway our thoughts go to those experiencing homelessness and who have no secure accommodation.
We had our Senior School Comfy Clothes day last week and collected a range of non-perishable food items for the Salvation Army. Junior School students will hold their Comfy Clothes day on Friday 25 June. They will do age-appropriate activities based on building awareness and education about the issues facing the homeless.
Recognising Refugee Week 2021
This week is Refugee Week and we were fortunate to have Abdul Razzaq visit to speak to our House Chapel service for Senior School students. Mr Razzaq has sought asylum in Australia from Pakistan and has spent years working with to support other asylum seekers in Melbourne.
The theme for Refugee Week this year is ‘Unity’ and it presents an opportunity to consider the experiences of those who have had to flee their homelands to a safe country.
We are having our Feast for Freedom on Thursday evening that involves Year 6 to Year 12 students and a number of staff. We are fortunate to have another guest speaker for this event.
Backpacks 4 Vic Kids Excursion
We are returning to Backpacks 4 Vic Kids to help clean and pack backpacks on Friday July 16 from 9.30 am to 11.30 am. Students from Years 7 to 12 will be attending.
If your child is interested in doing some voluntary service hours in their holidays, please encourage them to SEQTA message me.
Every blessing to you and your families as we conclude this term.
