Student Leaders Inspired to Achieve
It was a pleasure to be able to attend the Student Leaders Reception at Bunjil Place Theatre last week with our Year 12 School Captains Lilly and Alastair, as well as our Junior School Captains Alma and Dhruva.
This event brought together students from across the City of Casey to recognise them as the future generation that will be able to make a difference. Guest speakers challenged students to brainstorm ways of planning their projects, reminding them of the importance of collaborating with their peers and teachers.
They were encouraged to show persistence and resilience throughout their leadership journey, and our students were able to reflect on the quote – “Doubt kills more dreams than failure.”
Discussing Important Issues
It was equally inspiring to have our Student Leaders present their research and voice their views during our Week 6 Assembly that focused on International Women’s Day.
Not only did we recognise the achievements of women, both current and historically, there was also reference to the issues faced in Australia such as the gender pay gap, gender based violence, sexual harassment and low political representation.
Outstanding Athletes Recognised
Our Assembly also recognised Age Group Champions and Runners Up from the Swimming Carnival, as well as the official presentation of the Swimming Trophy to Reid House Captains.
Similarly, our most successful athletes will be presented with medals early in Term 2 following a brilliant day of competition and House spirit at the Athletics Carnival in Week 7.
Popular Parent-Teacher Zoom Meetings Return
Back due to popular demand, our Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences took place via Zoom this term. Teachers were able to discuss their observations and reinforce the recommendations provided in recent assessment tasks. It is pleasing to see the partnerships between School and home strengthen through this process.
As this is the last Newsletter for Term 1, I would like to extend my thanks on behalf of the Senior School to Miss Melissa Herbert and Mr Yves Moreau for their time at the School, replacing staff who have been on Leave. Both these teachers have demonstrated care and commitment to the holistic growth of our students.

Psychology Excursion Awakens the Senses
Years 10 and 11 Psychology Units 1 and 2 students recently visited the Mind Gallery at the Melbourne Museum. The gallery included relevant interactive games and displays allowing students to question how we feel, sense, think, learn, imagine, dream and remember.
So far this term, students have studied the roles of taste and vision as two examples of human sensory systems, and how psychological, biological and social factors can influence the way in which we perceive and interpret sensory information.
The exhibition led students through an Ames room where they were able to witness and experience firsthand how environmental cues play a role in our depth perception and visual perception.

Sport Teams Display Dedication and Determination
Senior Boys Competitive
The Senior Boys Soccer Team continues to be competitive in Division A and played a solid game at home against Padua Mornington campus. They managed to keep the opposition at bay, before narrowly losing 3-1.
Girls Show Teamwork and Commitment
Each week I am so impressed with the teamwork and commitment of the Senior Girls Basketball team. They are only getting better this season and put on a terrific display of determinations against Flinders College at their Carrum Down campus.
The team had a close loss, but it was a competitive game with some great skills on display. Special mention to Bianca Orzoi and Cass Vincent for both hitting three pointers!
Girls Score Volleyball Win
The Intermediate Girls Volleyball Team played against St Francis Xavier – Berwick Campus and came home with the win. They won the match in a best of three sets, 25-15, 25-19.
Strong Cricket Season Continues
The Intermediate Boys Indoor Cricket Team continues its strong season. The boys played Bayside Christian College this week and put on an impressive display, winning by 228-51.
So far this season they are undefeated and only have one game to go!

House Swimming Success Despite the Weather
As most of you are aware, earlier this month the Secondary School travelled to Noble Park Aquatic Centre to take part in the annual House Swimming Carnival.
The weather was not in our favour to begin with, but eventually some sun poked out from behind the clouds and students and staff braved the elements, and wore their House colours with pride.
All Casey Grammar teachers were incredibly proud of the students who attended on the day, supporting their Houses and fellow competitors, even in inclement weather. Well done to all the students who took the plunge and participated in individual and team events. Thank goodness the water in the pool was warm!
A big thank you to all the teachers for helping to run a fantastic day for the students.
Congratulations to Reid House, which took home the House Cup for Swimming, and a very special mention to Booth, which finished second and did a fantastic job with participation.
Congratulations to all the Age Group Champions and Runners Up, who were presented with their medals at Assembly last week.
